Meet Michelle
Birthplace:

I don't remember anything about the event, but I was born in Louisville,
Kentucky in March of an undisclosed year.

Childhood:

My earliest years were spent in Louisville and then my parents divorced when I was six. My dad,
Harold Sauter, moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and my mother, Doris Sauter, moved back to her hometown
of Asheville, North Carolina. I loved growing up in Atlanta and Asheville. Both cities feel like home.

Current Residence:

My husband, Paul, and I live in Leicester, North Carolina, a small, rural community about 11 miles from
Asheville. Our home is surrounded by woods on three sides, and we enjoy visits from deer, squirrels,
wild turkeys, pheasants, and an occasional bobcat or fox. I don't enjoy the visits from the snakes that
sometimes sunbathe on our land, but my husband usually takes them for a one-way trip (hopefully)
back to the creek.

Family/Occupations:

My husband, Paul, and I have been married for over 33 years. He's still my best friend, my sweetheart,
and my biggest cheerleader. We've owned and operated Cox Masonry for the last 33 years, and now
we've started a second business, Cox Construction, to build new homes for other families. I'm the
office manager for the company. Add my writing adventure into the equation and spare time is not a
problem.

We attend Trinity Baptist Church in Asheville, North Carolina, where we work with the singles
ministry, oversee the church offerings, and fill in when needed for various other roles. I recently
worked on the interior design for our new church building. That was quite a project!

Paul and I had so much fun raising our three sons. We never had any dull moments but we sure had
some interesting ones. I can't wait to get to Heaven so I can meet their guardian angels. I'm sure I'll
know them instantly. They'll be the ones with gray hair and nervous twitches from trying to keep my
boys safe.

Our oldest son,
Jeremy, is 30. He and our daughter-in-law, Lydia, live about 15 minutes from us in the
house where her great-grandfather once lived. Jeremy works for our family masonry business. He is
also a licensed general contractor and is a partner in Cox Construction. Jeremy is enrolled at Trinity
Baptist Bible College where he is studying to become a pastor. Lydia is a dental hygienist. Both are
active at Beulah Baptist Church, where Lydia's family attends. Lydia sings and plays the violin and
Jeremy teaches Sunday school. They've enjoyed working with the youth ministry.

Our middle son,
Tim, is 26. He and his wife, Laurel, live about 45 minutes from us in a quaint cottage
with interesting architectural details. Tim teaches and supervises the labs at Asheville Buncombe
Technical Community College. Laurel works as a medical assistant for a doctor's practice. Tim and
Laurel attend our church, Trinity Baptist, where they sing in the choir and help with teen church.

Our youngest son,
Jason, is 22. He still lives at home. He recently graduated from Asheville Buncombe
Tech with dual degrees in business administration and accounting. He is currently enrolled in Trinity
Baptist Bible College, where he is training to become a pastor or missionary. He also works for our
family business. Jason and his fiancee, Kella Lawter, attend Trinity Baptist where he sings, works with
the junior church bus kids, and helps with the middle school youth group. Kella also sings and she
works with the kids in Awana.

Our family has been blessed and we are grateful!

Hobbies/Favorite Things:

  • Reading is definitely a favorite.
  • I love shopping for bargains. I get that from my dad.
  • Traveling is another favorite. Our family recently went on a missions trip to help with some
building projects in Costa Rica. We fell in love with the people and plan to go back for another
    building project in August.
  • Cooking and collecting recipes is another fun way to spend an afternoon. This works out great
because my family loves to eat. I'd love for you to send me your favorite recipe!
  • Spending time with family is my absolute best hobby. My favorite time of the year is when the
whole family is together at Hilton Head Island for ten days. We have so much fun riding bikes,
fishing, shopping, eating, laughing, and making memories.

Writing & Speaking:

Writing and speaking were never anything I intended to do--but God had different plans. For the last
few years, I've had the privilege of writing frequently for six publications at Focus on the Family.
Working on
Mothers Who Made a Difference was a fun (and scary!) project since it was my first
book. Working on
Simple Little Words was a blast and I couldn't have had a finer co-author.

I am excited to be a member of AWSA (The Advanced Writers & Speakers Association), a group of
awesome ladies who pray for and encourage each other. The group includes some of the top speakers
in the country--and they still let me join.

I'm also a member of Women in Christian Media, The Writer's View, American Christian Fiction
Writers, and the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Group. They have been such a blessing to me.
My favorite book on writing is
Stein on Writing by Sol Stein.
